iDEA (innovations in Data Exploration & Analytics) Awards

Up to $150,000 in sponsored research funding | Pre-proposal deadline October 4, 2017

September 19, 2017

Sanofi invites you to participate in a new big data challenge.

Can you address a human health problem using big data and computational solutions? Do you apply machine learning and data analytics techniques to solve problems? Do you work with novel datasets that could enrich problem solving or generate further ideas for solutions?

The proposal must fall into the clinical and real world evidence space. Challenges include using big data for patient subtyping, earlier patient identification, establishing new digital biomarkers, predicting drug risk and benefit and identifying modifiable drivers of health outcomes.

Data Challenges: (see documents below)

1. Interface machine learning with quantitative systems pharmacology modeling to assess asthma disease phenotypes and the impact of novel therapies.

2. Apply machine learning techniques to determine the added value of asthma patient data derived from new external sources.

3. Use real world data for Parkinson’s disease subtyping and disease progression predictions.

4. Generalize randomized clinical trial (RCT) treatment effects to Real World target populations and calibrate missingness in Real World data with RCT or other data sources.

Eligibility: Open to invited academic institutions in the USA.

Process: Submit your completed pre-proposal to jean.bolte@duke.edu
Investigators should not send pre-proposals directly to Sanofi. The DCRI Center for Predictive Medicine will be leading an internal review process to select the strongest entries for submission to Sanofi.

Pre-Proposal Deadline: October 4, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. US EST

Full Proposal Deadline (by invitation only): Nov 27, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. US EST

Multiple sponsored research grants at up to $150,000 each will be awarded, under appropriate written agreements to be executed by Sanofi and the researcher’s Institution.

Note: Investigators are asked to submit a pre-proposal that offers a potential solution to 1 of the 4 data challenges in 3 pages or less. No confidential information should be included in the pre-proposal, however, you may provide supplemental information in the form of published patent applications, patents or scientific publications that support your pre-proposal. If you are invited to submit a full proposal, then a confidentiality agreement will be established at that time. Unless otherwise specified, data can be derived from Sanofi or your own institution’s sources but your preference/needs must be specified. After a confidentiality agreement is signed, Sanofi will provide a confidential term sheet addressing non-financial terms, for example intellectual property rights, publication, and other standard terms for sponsored research agreements.

This initiative is intended to build our networks, tap into cutting edge approaches and identify collaborative opportunities in the big data healthcare space.
