Melissa Burnside Named to 40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health List

Duke National Clinician Scholars Program (NCSP) participant Melissa Burnside, MD, MHS, has been named one of 2021’s 40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health by the National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF).

Annually since 2016, NMQF has selected 40 minority health leaders under the age of 40 who have been leading the charge to better patient outcomes and build sustainable healthy communities.  These leaders are clinicians, patient advocates, researchers and policy makers.

The 40 Under 40 Winners will receive their awards during the 2021 NMQF Leadership Summit on Health Disparities and Spring Health Braintrust Virtual Summit April 26 to 27.

The NCSP is a consortium of prestigious academic health care research institutions that provides training for doctors and post-doctoral nurses as change agents for driving policy-relevant research and partnerships to improve health and health care. Dr. Burnside joined Duke NCSP in 2020 as part of its second cohort. Her research focuses on investigating the role of racism and implicit bias on health care, medical education, and health policy.
